Unchain game development from where you are to where you want to be

With over 150 interviews with game developers from all corners of the game industry like AAA, Indie, and Mobile, we have found that everybody wants one essential thing: the freedom to create. Often times, we find ourselves limited by office politics, unrealistic scheduling, layoffs, and constant relocation that shakes the foundation that we are all trying to build to become successful. Things like maintaining a healthy relationship, building a family, or investing into a creative idea are always cast aside. At Game Dev Unchained, our goal is really simple, to help you become a successful game developer. We believe that everyone deep down has a creative expression, but are lacking the tools to carry that idea to full fruition. Below are three areas of game development, that we feel all developers are trying to succeed in.

The game industry is an alluring place and you may be looking from the outside as a student, a professional from a different industry, or as someone that is just curious on what life is like as a professional game developer. Think about education, for instance. Do you have what it takes to become a professional game developer? If so, great! But now move on to another area: networking. Are you meeting the right people to connect you to the companies you want to work at? What about making the jump from mobile to AAA? Or vice versa?

No matter how accomplished or happy we are, we all have areas of our career that could use some improvement – and in most cases, different amounts of improvement. We encourage you to take a good, hard look at all facets of your career, and ask yourself if it is working? Are you crunching more than usual? Do you find yourself barely surviving from project to project? Is the salary matching to what you are bringing to your company?

You have acquired valuable skills working years in the industry but are lost on how to best utilize them to create a self-sustainable business. You have many ideas but the jump to indie is frightening and with a family to take care of, unthinkable.

Start educating yourself on ways to taking steps towards what you want and get started on your journey to the amazing life you desire - and deserve.
